It looks like there's a free VPN service:

Hi Rob! If this VPN service is free, where do they get revenue? I have been looking at VPN, but have not done it yet. Please advise.

"If this VPN service is free, where do they get revenue?"

Proton has a paid tier, with faster network speed and more servers to balance the load and exit from.

It's the same with Proton e=mail; they have both a free and paid tier.

Michael Bazzell, the guy who hosts the Privacy Security & OSINT podcast - https://inteltechniques.com/podcast.html - uses Proton.

Another option would be to use TOR browser.

https://www.torproject.org/download/

It doesn't encrypt all of your network traffic. But it does hide your web use from your internet service provide and other snoops.
