Day 27/28 - Boise, Idaho to Morrison, Colorado (Home) (Thr/Fri 8/14-15)

(Thr-Fri 8/14-15)

Update: I am alive and well and resting peacefully in my own bed in Morrison, Colorado.

Starting Odometer: 24,225
Ending Odometer: 25,106
Miles Driven Today: 881
Miles Driven This Trip: 10,453
Miles from Home: 0

Here's a map of roughly where I drove today.

I ran into some guy at a gas station in Utah. He was really impressed with my trip to Alaska on the KTM. He has a KTM 990R, apparently. In any event, he said "Finish Strong", so I went ahead and drove all the way home. 881 miles is my longest ride in one day ever. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it, as I had to drive across Colorado in the dark, but it feels good to be home.

Technically, I got in at about 1:00 a.m. on the 28th day.

Well done! Quite an accomplishment! I love that you are willing to take all of us fans along with your daily chats.:) Take a long restful nap, then come to Mississippi.

Absolutely amazing Rob! Met you 3 years back on the Coho ferry on your first Alaska adventure, stumbled back to your site about a week ago and have been following your ride since. My wife and I have been down to Yosemite and back up the california coast, and to Yellowstone last year, but nothing like the adventure you've just experienced! You've certainly 'come a long way" since I met that guy who wasn't exactly sure how to get to Alaska but damned the torpedoes anyway! Yeah, I think you now more than qualify for a "seasoned long-distance adventure rider"! Great stories, photos and loved your videos(especially the giant dust storm!)Oh, and good to see you ditched that 650 thumper!

You, my friend, are THE man! I've looked forward to the newest entry each day, so now that I'm (temporarily) no longer living vicariously through you, I feel lost.....HAHA!

Congrats on a truly EPIC, safe journey, and I hope it won't be too long before the next. To echo Angus, thanks for taking us along with you!

Hope to see you soon.

Thanks very much, David. It was a crazy, beautiful ride. I'm glad that some people like to follow along and live vicariously through my posts. My rides are somewhat unique, because there are lots of people out there on the road traveling around the country on bikes, but very few of them have laptops. No one else is carrying 4 SLR cameras and a MacBook Air on the road, to my knowledge. (Not saying it's a good idea, but it does set me apart, I think?) Most guys on the road like this have tents and sleep along the rivers. But I need WiFi and electricity to recharge my electronics, so that usually means I have to be a little closer to civilization. Maybe next time I'll take some solar panels and a satellite phone.

Angus...so glad to hear from you. You really inspired me, in a big way. I remember our conversation very clearly. We were on the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. I was like..."dude...I don't even know if the way I'm going makes sense driving up Vancouver Island, then from Port Hardee to Prince Rupert, to Kitwanga. And you were like..."it makes perfect sense. It will work. Go do it. And, no matter what happens, don't turn back. Don't pull up short. It's easy to second guess yourself on the road. When you're out there, you have to just follow through with the plan you dreamed up before you left home." It's VERY easy to start second-guessing yourself when you're thousands of miles away from home in a foreign country, or driving down a 500 mile mud road in a 37 degree F rainstorm. I doubt any of my biggest adventures would have succeeded without having you as a mentor. I think about our conversation on every adventure I go on. Thanks again for your guidance.

Welcome home. Glad you're safe and sound, but will miss the daily adventure you've provided my mundane life.

Thanks, SL. It was a beautiful ride. Drove across Colorado in the dark last night, following other vehicles on the highways, using their headlights to watch for deer. :)

My wife would laugh her ass off at "mentor" Rob, as would I. But, if I did help in any way you're more than welcome, and more than kind with your kudos. You're far more of an adventurer than I...and am glad "y'all" got back in one piece!

CV, Glad that you liked following along on the ride. It was a crazy adventure. Nice to know that some people follow along on my little adventures. It takes a lot of time to keep the website updated. If I had any sense, I'd probably do it all on facebook, but I like keeping it mostly on my website, so I can go back and search my previous trips, etc.
