Testing the New Global Hawk
They've been testing the "Block 20 Global Hawk" out on base this week. Also called the RQ-4B, its a new configuration of the Global Hawk unmanned plane. The new configuration is has a wingspan of 130.9 feet and is 47.6 feet long. Payload will increase 50% from 2,000 pounds (Block 10) to 3,000 pounds (Block 20). It is also modified to accomodate more sensors and the Multi-Platform Radar Technology Insertion Program (MPRTIP). They're testing it in Wind Tunnel Test Cell 16T, a trans-sonic wind tunnel that can simulate speeds up to mach 2.8. They're apparently doing some additional testing of this beast out at Edward's Air Force Base in Kalifornia. Additional images here.
