Whitewater Rafting on the Cheoah River

2006 is the first season for rafting on the Cheoah river in 70 years. The tree-huggers wanted to simulate spring floods on the Cheoah to help save the Elktoe Mussel, so they have controlled releases from the Santeetlah dam of 1,000 cubic feet per second. They scheduled the releases for the spring and fall. I ran the last run of the Spring releases on June 4th in the afternoon. Next release scheduled for some time in October.
