The Virtues of Rednecks

When the self-appointed defenders of minority rights called for open season on the non-urban white american male, they didn't count on Fred Reed. The media elite lambaste the flyover country rednecks with derisive epithets they wouldn't dare apply to blacks or jews or women. Fred Reed's screed on rednecks vs. the psudeo-intellectual ivy-league urban filth that infect our cities is right on the money:

Now, if an asteroid hit Boston, which would be a good idea, and all the International Safeways and designer-cheese stores went tits-up, and the repair shops and gas stations that do things for all that human okra up there that needs someone else to water it, and if people had to take care of themselves like grownups…how long do you think the English department at Cornell would last?

Too long, yes. Maybe minutes. Think of it: Five hundred BMWs descending on the drug stores, people squealing and clawing and snatching out eyeballs to steal the last Prozac. Why, they couldn’t live without sour white wine not nearly as good as Ripple and those cheeses with names like Chartreuse. A week later they’d be eating their lawns. (I don’t oppose this, understand. I’d sell tickets.)

Read Fred's defense of the last safe ethic group that the media has deemed the whole thing at Fred Reed's blog.

Update: Corrected links.

Fred's site (FredOnEverything.net) uses frames for some pages, which does make it a pain to link to the correct article. It's easy to link to the correct page but still be linking to the wrong frame in that page.

A reason not to use frames for a web site.

Main Page: http://www.fredoneverything.net/

Fred Columns: http://www.fredoneverything.net/FOE_Frame_Column.htm

The most recent column is shown in the right frame. Note the column list in the left frame. Clicking on a column title opens the column in the right frame, but does not change the URL in the web browser's address bar.

There are ways to get that information (eg - view source code, view link properties, open link in new window or tab), but simple perma-links would be a lot better.
