Democrats bleating about zogby poll
The Democrats are emitting a shrill ear-piercing squeal over the latest Zogby poll. They claim that:
"...more than two-in-five voters (42%) say they would favor impeachment proceedings if it is found the President misled the nation about his reasons for going to war with Iraq."
Which means that 3 in 5 don't favor impeachment. But, put that aside. The real point is this. The last time I checked, only congress has the power to declare war. This isn't some inadvertent oversight by our forefathers. They did it deliberately. That wanted it to be very hard to go to war. They wanted 2/3 of the senate to have to vote to go to war. What would that entail? Congressional hearings. Honest debate. And did the democrats call for any of that? Nope. Not a bit. They did something different. They basically punted and voted to let the president do whatever he felt was right. So, they blatantly abdicated their congressional responsibility. Granted, their actions probably technically satisfied the watered-down requirements of the still-born War Powers Resolution Act, but it flies in the face of the Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution.
Democrats just want to have it both ways. They want to avoid an intense, and possibly unpopular, political debate about going to war, and then cry foul when they find out they were duped. They slithered out from under a rock and said "Hey. You misled us." Well, Duh! Hussein tried to assassinate his father. What did you think he was going to do when he got into office. Did y'all just fall off the turnip truck?
This is not just disingenuous. This is pathetic. Really sad. You had your chance to stop him from going to war. You had your chance to take a bold and principled stand. To demand proof, and debate the evidence. And what did you do? You punted. So shut you fat mouths and lie in the bed you made you weasels. And, maybe next time a president wants to go to war, you'll follow your congressional mandate and a) demand proof and b)debate the proof and c) demand war. Then, and only then, will you not look like such inept idiots.
